I'm Lauren...Welcome to my blog!

Some quick stuff about myself: I'm a 21 year-old senior at Syracuse University, majoring in the graphic design in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Just for Fun

A work in progress-- playing with a book cover--for a made-up book.
The text emulates the writing style of e.e. cummings.

Packaging Design

Assignment: use typography as the sole element in packaging design of either soap, shampoo, coffee or tea. I chose to create a line of upscale, seasonal shampoo. In an effort to make the product seem more authentic, natural and, well expensive, I added ingredients to the bottles.

For summer, I put lemon and lime rinds into the bottle. For spring, baby's breath and strawberry juice. For fall, apple skins and apple cider. For winter, a creamy conditioner and spinach (meant to resemble mint).

International Typographic Style

For this project, also a part of my typography class, we were assigned design movements and instructed to create a poster for an exhibit in that style.
The design had to be 80% typography and had to include a paragraph about the movement.

Eventually, I'd like to rework the text to make it smaller and less bulky, but this is the poster as of now.

I came up with the exhibit title "Deus Ex Machina" or "God From the Machine" which is a term used in Greek theater. I found it fitting for the precision of the Swiss style, as it seemed to me that symmetry and perfect execution is holy for these designers.

Kinetic Typography

My first endeavor in Adobe After Effects and Kinetic Type

Typography

This was a project for a typography class. We had to create a calendar solely of typographic elements and had to trace and then scan individual letters. Finally, we had to label the (body)parts of each letter.

I'm not 100% happy with this piece, but I do like the grid at the bottom.

Personal Website

This personal portfolio website was created for a class called "Designing Interactivity" which provided an introduction to Dreamweaver (CS3), Flash and search engine optimization.
The site is not live (hence, the need for this blog) but will be once the kinks are worked out...for now, check out the design!
